Tips

Tipping is always optional. You can choose a tip when you book and, after a completed booking, you can add more. Your Cook receives 100% of the tip.

Can I tip when I book?

Yes. During checkout, you can choose an optional tip for your Cook. No tip is required, and no amount is selected for you — tipping starts at $0 until you choose an amount.

Can my Cook see the tip?

Yes — your Cook may see the tip you've selected while reviewing your booking request, shown separately from their normal Cook-service earnings.

Choosing a tip doesn't guarantee a Cook will accept your booking, and a tip amount never gives your request higher priority in PlatedUp's matching — Cooks choose which requests to accept on their own terms. Tipping is always optional, even though your Cook can see it — your Cook can't require a tip to accept or complete your booking.

Can I change my tip before my Cook accepts?

While your request is still pending, you can generally change or remove your selected tip. Once your Cook accepts and your booking is successfully confirmed, your selected tip becomes committed — it generally can't be reduced or removed just because you've changed your mind, since your Cook already saw and considered it when accepting.

What happens if the booking is canceled?

If service never begins — for example, your booking never gets confirmed, your Cook cancels, your Cook doesn't show up, or a booking can't start because of a customer no-access issue — your selected tip is fully refunded or released. This is separate from PlatedUp's normal Cook-service and service-fee cancellation rules, which continue to apply on their own — see Canceling an Order, What If My Cook Cancels?, and What If My Cook Is Late or Doesn't Arrive?

If your Cook begins your booking but it doesn't complete normally, PlatedUp reviews what happened before deciding whether any part of your tip is affected — similar to how other service issues are reviewed. See Refunds.

Can I add more after the booking?

Yes. After a completed booking, you can add an additional tip for up to 7 calendar days. An additional tip only adds to any tip you already gave — it doesn't replace or reduce it.

How much can I tip?

You can tip up to 100% of your Cook-service amount in total, combining any tip chosen at booking with any additional tip added afterward. There's no minimum. Percentage-based tip options are calculated from your Cook-service amount only — not from PlatedUp's service fee, groceries, or taxes. For example, a 20% tip on a $75 Cook-service amount is $15.

Does my Cook receive all of it?

Yes. Your Cook receives 100% of the tips collected for their bookings. PlatedUp doesn't deduct its service fee or take a share of your tip, and a tip doesn't reduce your Cook's normal Cook-service earnings — it's additional to them.

Can I use PlatedUp Credit?

No. PlatedUp Credit can't be used to fund a tip — see Refunds for what Credit can and can't be used for. An eligible payment method is used for any tip you choose.

What about recurring meal prep?

Each weekly occurrence starts with no tip selected, even if you tipped on a previous week — see Can I Book Recurring Meal Prep? You'll need to choose a tip again for each occurrence if you'd like to leave one.

What if there's an incorrect tip charge?

If you notice a duplicate, unauthorized, or otherwise clearly incorrect tip charge, contact PlatedUp Support so it can be reviewed and corrected.

Good to know

Tipping and reviews are independent — you can leave a review without tipping, tip without leaving a review, or do both. See Reviews and Reports.
