Who Buys the Groceries?
The customer arranges and pays for the groceries used in a booking. Your Cook's role is to prepare the meal, not to independently shop or pay for ingredients.
Three ways to handle groceries
- Use groceries you already have at home.
- Arrange grocery delivery ahead of your booking.
- Where supported, prepare and prepay a grocery pickup order that your Cook can collect on the way to your booking.
If a required ingredient is missing
If you've clearly agreed on what groceries or ingredients you'll provide and something required is missing at your booking, your Cook isn't required to leave to buy it, use their own money, or cover the cost themselves.
Your Cook may use a reasonable substitution if you approved substitutions in advance, or if you approve one during the booking — but your Cook won't make a substitution that could conflict with a stated allergy or dietary restriction without your OK.
If a missing ingredient that was clearly agreed on in advance can't be resolved, it may affect how much of your booking your Cook can complete and could affect your refund — see Preparing Your Kitchen Before a Booking for how that's calculated. This wouldn't apply to a requirement that was never reasonably communicated to you in advance.
Good to know
Whichever option you choose, your Cook works with the groceries you've arranged — see Using Your Own Groceries and How Grocery Pickup Works for more detail.
If you'd like help deciding, message your Cook once your booking is confirmed.
